He might only be a freshman, but Jalen Hurts is already one of the strongest members on the entire team!
Hurts' dad remembers hearing this from at least one rival football coach after one of his son's high school powerlifting meets, "Man, your quarterback is stronger than our whole team."
There aren't many college quarterbacks that can squat more than some of their team's linemen. Hurts, Alabama's promising freshman quarterback, can.
Squatting 500 pounds is impressive even for a 300-pound linemen. Hurts, who was part of his high school's powerlifting team as a sophomore and junior, recently squatted 525 pounds at Alabama. He squatted 570 pounds last year at a high school powerlifting meet.
Above is video of Hurts squatting 500 pounds as a junior in high school. The first plate on each side is 100 pounds. The next two are 45 pound weights. The other two are 35 pounds and 2 ½ pounds.
Hurts later squatted 540 pounds at that same meet.
In the above video, you can also see Hurts bench press 275 pounds and deadlift both 560 and 565 pounds.
